In retail, demand changes by time slot, but fixed-shift staffing does not
In a store, the demand for people changes by time slot, by day of the week and by season. With fixed shifts, the staffing of low-demand hours is the same as that of peak-demand hours.

02 · Manufacturing and logistics
In continuous operations, shift length sets how many handovers cover 24 hours
Plants and distribution centers run on overlapping shifts and dispatch peaks. A change in shift length, in handovers or in the weekly working hours changes how many people are needed to cover the same hours.

03 · Security and facilities
In security and facilities, coverage is quoted by post, day and time slot
Security, cleaning and maintenance services are contracted by post and by schedule, and are quoted before the shift schedule is known. Each shift scheme and each working-hours rule changes the staffing and the cost of the proposal.
